France forward Antoine Griezmann, who was named Player of the Match in the semi-finals, spoke out about the possibility of facing Argentina’s Messi-led team in the title clash.
France defeated Morocco by 2-0 in Thursday’s semi-final. They took the lead with a goal by Theo Hernandez in the 5th minute. Substitute Randal Kolo Muani scored in the 79th to make it 2-0. France won the full-time match and swept into the final. The FIFA World Cup 2022 final will see the reigning World Champions face off against Argentina on Sunday, December 18.
Although Argentina is home to many match-winners it’s Messi that steals the spotlight more often than others. The attention on the 35-year-old has increased as the final clash nears. The French team may be busy planning to face the star striker, who is currently the top goal-scorer in the tournament. France forward Antoine Griezmann spoke out about the possibility of facing Messi-led Argentina at the title clash.
“Any team with Messi is a completely different proposition,” Griezmann, quoted by Sportskeeda.
“We have seen Argentina play, and we are familiar with their game. They are a tough team to play, and they appear in top form. This is not just Messi. They have a strong team around them and will have lots of support from the crowd. He said, “We will be prepared.”
Messi announced ahead of the final clash that this match would be his last for Argentina. Messi is aiming for his first-ever World Cup trophy title, something that has been missing from his long and distinguished career. He will strive to improve his performance at the 2014 World Cup final, where he was runners-up.
France, the current World Champions, will attempt to be the first team since 1962 to defend their title. They would be joining the exclusive club of trophy winners who have won the Cup twice, which is only Brazil and Italy.
